Energy burned = MET × weight (kg) × time (h). MET is an intensity factor from the Compendium of Physical Activities: brisk walking is about 4.3, running at 8 km/h about 8.3, at 10 km/h about 9.8 and strength training about 3.5. These are averages; the real figure depends on intensity, build and health.
For a 70 kg person, about 290 kcal at 8 km/h and about 340 kcal at 10 km/h.
Brisk walking (about 5.5 km/h) burns about 300 kcal an hour for a 70 kg person.
Calories burned in exercise are often overestimated. If you want to lose weight, do not eat back everything you burned; track the daily balance in a diary instead.
